How do i clean an infected cut on a hamsters nose?

So i noticed a huge pimple looking bump on my hamsters nose recently. i put him in separate cage cuz i thought it could be a tumor of some sort but the next day the fur on top of the nose was black so i i tried using a damp cloth to wipe his nose of because i assumed it was dirt then another day passed and i decided to try and keep it clean but when i wiped his nose again there was a weird smell =/ so i waited one more day and today i cleaned his nose again but this time a scab skin thing (about the number zero on a computer keybored) came off on the tissue and it smelled like death. There was a pretty big laceration on his nose... it wasnt bleeding but it still looked really bad compared to such a small creature. i cleaned his cage and dabbed his nose with some warm water and it doesn't seem to bother him but i dont want it getting infected again..? anything i should use to help clean it out?? (going to the vet is not an option =(
